Abby Mitro Named Interim Head Coach of Women's Volleyball
Abby Mitro has been named Interim Head Coach of the Women's Volleyball program. After serving as an assistant coach with the Royals last season, Mitro steps into the lead role, bringing a wealth of high-level playing and coaching experience to the program.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to step into the role of Interim Head Coach for the Douglas College Women's Volleyball program, a full-circle moment for me as an alumna and member of last season's coaching staff," said Mitro. "Our team has a tremendous work ethic, and I'm excited to continue fostering a culture of excellence that empowers our student-athletes to compete at a high level and succeed both in the classroom and on the court."
A former Royal, Mitro played for and captained the Women's Volleyball team from 2016 to 2019, during which she won a PACWEST Championship and a CCAA silver medal in 2018. She is currently the head coach of the Seaside Surf U16 team, which recently finished fourth at club provincials and top 13 at club nationals. She was also previously an assistant coach for the Raincity Riptide, which won a club national championship in 2025.
"On behalf of Douglas College and the Royals Athletics family, we welcome Coach Mitro to her new leadership role with the Women's Volleyball program," said Brian McLennon, Athletics Director.
"We are confident her championship experience will build on our established culture of excellence and inspire student-athlete success."
