Last Saturday, the Douglas College Royals men’s and women’s basketball hosted the Capilano University Blues in a rematch from Friday nights road tilt which saw the women fall 68-55 and the men snatch a victory 76-70, playing spoilers to the Blues home crowd.
Saturday nights affair would eventually end in the same result for the women, falling short 57-54. On the men’s side, a combined 41 points from guards Courtney Anderson and Josiah Mastandrea (who had a season high 20 points) helped the men defeat Capilano 86-71 to take their 10th win of the season.
The Douglas College Royals men’s and women’s basketball team faced the Vancouver Island Mariners last week in back to back home games over the weekend, with the women falling short on both matchups and the men’s undefeated streak being snapped as they split both games with VIU.

The men’s basketball team found themselves in a fantastic position going into the PACWEST Provincial Championship. Having won five out of six games in February, the team found themselves peaking just at the right time. They entered the tournament as the fourth seed and faced off against the hosts, the Quest Kermodes.
It was a tough call as to whether the large amount of snow which the lower mainland received over the weekend would hinder a hopeful weekend full of basketball. On the initial night, things were okay, and the Royals took on the Capilano Blues in a heated matchup.
