A second straight sweep sees the Royals softball team remain undefeated heading into Saturday's home opener.
The Royals went up 6-2 in the top of the seventh inning, but the Skagit Valley College Cardinals responded with a 4-spot to send the game into extras. But there wasn't too much free softball to be played as Keyanna Olsen hit a grand slam in the top of the eighth to blow the doors off as part of a seven-run inning for Douglas. The game-winning dinger was huge from Olsen, who tied for 4 RBIs in the morning half of the Saturday doubleheader with Hannah Menard. Royals Ace Jessica Podskalny was excellent as usual, striking out 8 in a 13-6 extra-innings win.
Douglas didn't need extras to complete the sweep in the afternoon half of Saturday's back-to-back. The Royals were down 3-2 after a chaotic first inning, but a one-run single from Emilie Sherrit in the fourth inning gave Douglas the lead and they never looked back. Janessa Hanson led the Royals with a three-hit outing and Keyanna Olsen got her second long bomb of the day in the seventh inning for some insurance as the Royals beat Skagit Valley 8-5 to remain undefeated in conference play.
The Royals home opener is this Saturday, March 23rd at Softball City in Surrey, where they host division rivals the Pierce College Raiders for games at 12 PM and 2 PM.
